Some notes on the model.

The Universal Carrier will make a powerful and good looking model. The choice of three different boilers (water tube, locomotive or vertical) and the option of fitting wood, steel plate, or cast iron wheels gives the builder considerable choice. The wagon may be completed as a flat bed wagon, as a covered box bed, as a generating wagon (as supplied to Showmen), or any other guise of the builders’ choice.

The compact and totally enclosed compound undertype engine is fitted beneath the frames. A two speed gearbox and differential run in the oil bath. A considerable bonus of the Savage engine design is that the geared down boiler feed pump may be run under power from the engine while the vehicle is stationary. The double drive to the two back wheels employs chains and sprockets. The wood block brakes bear directly on the wheel rim.

The ‘Universal Carrier’ steam wagon is available in 3” scale only. The standard wagon is 4’ 10” long and 1’ 8˝” wide. The back wheels are 10˝” over the tyres and the front wheels are 9” over the steel tyres.

Four Universal Carriers are now well advanced, two with cast wheels, one with wooden 'artillery' style wheels and one with plate wheels. Two engine units have been run on air and one successfully steamed.
